Yes, the rumours are true ladies and gentlemen – the Emerging Writers Festival is hitting Brisbane and your humble blog authoress will be acting as EWF’s Official Brisbane Blogger.
On Saturday the 15th of October, EWF is rolling into town for a one-day Digital Writers Conference. It’s going to be a pretty rockin’ conference, guys. For any local emerging writers who have been down to the Emerging Writers Festival in Melbourne, the Seven Enviable Lines keynote panel might look familiar (And I will personally vouch for this one – I took a lot of useful notes at the Melbourne Seven Enviable Lines event in May) and it’ll be followed by panels on writing online, marketing your writing, twitter, what-have-you.
The Digital Writers Conference will address all issues surrounding digital writing, such as how to make technology work for you as an emerging writer (something I can attest to myself – I can trace the majority of my good fortune RE: writing and the industry back to blogging, twitter and Facebook), online journalism, how to publish your work online, success stories, challenges, advantages, how to drum up a readership…even those of you who might be hesitant about e-books, twitter and prefer to reminisce about Back In Your Day and You Can’t Get That Old Book Smell From A Computer Screen and Talking To People Face To Face and the like will find lots of tips about how to go online to benefit your offline work. I promise. If you’re unsatisfied, I’ll bake you cookies or something.
On top of everything the conference is going to play host to a bunch of awesome industry experts (check out the list here) including a couple of familiar faces from EWF Melbourne, including festival director Lisa Dempster. There’s also going to be other fun stuff happening around the place as well as the conference, so stay tuned.
Anyway, so you’re all thinking, THIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER, are you not? Well, The Emerging Writers Festival still needs your help! You might remember me posting about TiNA festival and their crowdfunding endeavour (which ended up being hugely successful! Yay!) and now the EWF is getting in on this crowdfunding business and has partnered with Pozible to fund the conference. Support the Brisbane Conference and pledge today by paying for the cost of your ticket! (Pledges over $35/concession and $45/adult will get you your ticket to the event, but if aren’t from Brisbane/if you want to donate another amount that’s cool too! There’s a few fun ‘prizes’ you can snag for donating different amounts. Check out the Brisbane Conference Pozible page for details – and for a fun festival video featuring yours truly!
Hope to see you at the conference!
Sian

That sounds fantastic! I wish I was back in the area to go.
Enjoy the conference.
